About Conan Taylor

Conan Taylor serves as the Managing Partner of Spectrum Family Law, a distinguished firm dedicated exclusively to family law throughout Alberta and British Columbia. While his personal legal expertise was forged in corporate and commercial litigation, Conan’s vision for Spectrum Family Law stems from his recognition of the critical need for specialized family law services delivered with compassion and precision. Under his leadership, the firm has developed a team of lawyers who focus exclusively on, (and therefore have a vast knowledge of), family law and protecting their clients’ legal rights during what are often the most challenging periods of their lives.

As Managing Partner, Conan has largely stepped away from active legal practice to concentrate on what he believes truly makes a difference for clients: building exceptional teams, fostering meaningful client relationships, and strategically expanding the firm’s reach to ensure accessible family law services for clients across Alberta and BC. His leadership philosophy emphasizes comprehensive training, collaborative case management, and unwavering ethical standards—all focused on delivering optimal outcomes for families in transition.

A Distinguished Legal Career

With 29 years of legal practice, Conan has established himself as a formidable presence in Canadian law. His corporate and commercial litigation expertise has resulted in resolving over $500 million in contested claims throughout his career. Conan’s legal acumen extends to providing litigation risk management advice, contract review and drafting, negotiation, and general legal oversight for both daily business operations and major transactions.

Throughout his career, Conan has provided counsel to numerous businesses and individual clients across diverse sectors. His board experience spans multiple industries, including mining, pharmacy, construction, land development, and technology. This breadth of experience informs his holistic approach to leadership at Spectrum Family Law, where he applies business best practices to create a client-centered family law experience.

Military Service and Educational Foundation

Before embarking on his legal career, Conan dedicated nine years to service as an officer with the Canadian Armed Forces. After obtaining his Pilot’s Wings in 1983, he accumulated more than 4,500 hours of flight time. His military service included three years as a NATO Exchange Officer with the Royal Air Force in the United Kingdom, where he flew Chinook helicopters. Conan retired from military service in 1989, having attained the rank of Captain.

Conan’s educational background includes a BA (Honours) in Philosophy with First Class Honours from the University of Alberta and an LLB/JD from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. This combination of philosophical training and legal education has shaped his analytical approach to problem-solving and strategic planning—skills he now applies to growing and strengthening Spectrum Family Law.

Conan’s passion for Spectrum Family Law is evident in his commitment to expanding the firm’s footprint throughout Alberta and British Columbia. He has methodically established offices in Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver, creating regional hubs of family law excellence that maintain consistent service standards while adapting to local needs. His vision continues to evolve as he explores opportunities to bring Spectrum’s specialized family law services to more communities.

When not focused on firm development, Conan enjoys traveling and spending time at his family farm property south of Edmonton. There, he finds balance working the land and unwinding in nature beneath Alberta’s expansive blue skies. This connection to the land reinforces his commitment to serving Canadian families with legal services that honor their roots and secure their futures.
